1. COMMUNITY NURSE
The Health Commission provides a Community Nurse to visit the school to perform
speech and sight checks for Kindergarten and Year 5 children and to review those
children who were seen to have had problems on past visits.
Referrals for appropriate medical attention are made when needed. Permission
from parents is always obtained before any examinations are conducted.
2. SCHOOL COUNSELLOR
School Counsellors are qualified, experienced graduate teachers who have
additional counselling qualifications. The counselling service exists in
Government schools for the benefit of all children and their families who need
assistance with any learning, behaviour or emotional problems.
Referrals for assessment and counselling help may come from parents, teachers,
pupils, other Government Departments or outside agencies such as doctors.
Any parent who wishes to see the School Counsellor should phone the school for
an appointment - 9674 4460.
Children may only see the Counsellor if parental approval has been given.
3. DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY
SERVICES
The District Officer of the Department of Community Services has a statutory
responsibility for the protection of children. Within the school situation that
officer may be called on to discuss concerns the school authorities or parents
may have concerning a child that may be at risk.
4. STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL
The Student Representative Council (S.R.C.) is composed of the ten elected
school captains and prefects as well as one representative from each class from
Year 2 to Year 6. The class S.R.C. representatives are elected by their class
members each semester. The S.R.C. elect a President, Secretary and Treasurer who
also hold office for one semester.
The S.R.C. provides a forum for students to have their ideas and concerns
discussed by their peers. Any decisions are then discussed with the Principal
before any action is taken. The S.R.C. also organise fund-raising for selected
charities.
5. PEER SUPPORT
Kings Langley Public School at present runs a Peer Support Program between
Kindergarten and Year 5. This program runs for 10 weeks in the first half of the
year. The general aim is to encourage positive relationships within a school
community and to develop communication, self-esteem and group work skills.
