NSW Government School Kings Langley Public School

Excellence in Scholarship, Citizenship & Personal Development

Congratulations to our PULSE CHOIR and Miss Watson for their wonderful  performance at the Sydney Opera House! ~ We are proud to announce that 638 students will be involved in our "Behaviour Award" Sausage Sizzle next week.  ~ We are currently enrolling for Kindergarten 2010. Enrolment forms can be obtained from the office.  It would be appreciated if this could be brought to the attention of any neighbours, who have a child ready to commence Kindergarten next year, and live within our boundaries.

Community Nurse Department of Community Services Peer Support
School Counsellor Student Representative Council

1. COMMUNITY NURSE

The Health Commission provides a Community Nurse to visit the school to perform speech and sight checks for Kindergarten and Year 5 children and to review those children who were seen to have had problems on past visits.

Referrals for appropriate medical attention are made when needed. Permission from parents is always obtained before any examinations are conducted.

2. SCHOOL COUNSELLOR

School Counsellors are qualified, experienced graduate teachers who have additional counselling qualifications. The counselling service exists in Government schools for the benefit of all children and their families who need assistance with any learning, behaviour or emotional problems.

Referrals for assessment and counselling help may come from parents, teachers, pupils, other Government Departments or outside agencies such as doctors.

Any parent who wishes to see the School Counsellor should phone the school for an appointment - 9674 4460.

Children may only see the Counsellor if parental approval has been given.

3. DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY SERVICES

The District Officer of the Department of Community Services has a statutory responsibility for the protection of children. Within the school situation that officer may be called on to discuss concerns the school authorities or parents may have concerning a child that may be at risk.

4. STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL

The Student Representative Council (S.R.C.) is composed of the ten elected school captains and prefects as well as one representative from each class from Year 2 to Year 6. The class S.R.C. representatives are elected by their class members each semester. The S.R.C. elect a President, Secretary and Treasurer who also hold office for one semester.

The S.R.C. provides a forum for students to have their ideas and concerns discussed by their peers. Any decisions are then discussed with the Principal before any action is taken. The S.R.C. also organise fund-raising for selected charities.

5. PEER SUPPORT

Kings Langley Public School at present runs a Peer Support Program between Kindergarten and Year 5. This program runs for 10 weeks in the first half of the year. The general aim is to encourage positive relationships within a school community and to develop communication, self-esteem and group work skills.
