SECTION A GENERAL INFORMATION
TEACHING AND LEARNING PROGRAMS

The Key Learning Areas (K.L.A.s) are the focus of the educational processes at Kings Langley Public School. They are:

ENGLISH
MATHEMATICS
SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
CREATIVE ARTS
HUMAN SOCIETY & ITS ENVIRONMENT
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Through carefully planned programs of learning, utilising a variety of teaching resources and methods, staff ensure that each student has the opportunity to attain maximum educational progress and performance. The School Management Plan underpins annual priorities and the maintenance of high standards.

Classes are usually arranged so that students of different ability are able to work together but are catered for according to their individual needs. In the Senior Years (Five and Six), classes for advanced students are formed in order to prepare them for secondary school and to allow for emerging specialised abilities. Most classes will group students in some K.L.A. activities when appropriate but it is not the intent of the school to create an attitude of ‘elitism’ in any area of its operation.

Special programs operate to enhance learning opportunities for all students. In consultation with parents, students are guided into programs which will best fulfil their needs. These programs include Languages Other Than English, Enrichment Activities, cultural pursuits, Learning Assistance Programs, University competitions and sport.

The highly-experienced staff strives to maintain teaching methodologies which are both effective and appropriate for the students and which match the current developmental priorities of the Department of School Education. Staff attend professional development courses to remain fully conversant with new trends and teaching methods. Courses are held both in and out of school time and are always of immense importance in supporting excellence in teaching.

It is the intent of the school to provide students with the best opportunities to learn and grow. The results of the school’s success in this endeavour are reflected in its proud record of achievements. Entry to selective high schools, results of Basic Skills testing, University Competition scores, cultural and sporting successes have demonstrated the excellence of the Teaching and Learning Programs at Kings Langley.
